Eligibility To be eligible for the Marion B. Sewer Distinguished Scholarship, applicants must meet the following criteria: Be a U.S. citizen, U.S. national, permanent resident, or have DACA status. Foreign nationals on a visa are not eligible. Be enrolled or accepted as a full-time student at an accredited two- or four-year institution in the U.S. or U.S. territories. High school seniors are also eligible. Be a current member of the ASBMB (American Society for Biochemistry and Molecular Biology). Undergraduates and high school students can join directly, or undergraduates can join through an ASBMB Student Chapter at a participating institution. Declare a Biochemistry and/or Molecular Biology major, or a related discipline. Maintain a minimum GPA of 3.0 on a 4.0 scale. Application Requirements Applicants must submit the following materials as part of their application: College major or intended major List of leadership and extracurricular activities List of honors and awards Current GPA Unofficial academic transcript Demographic information Short statements (with specified word limits):Research Interests/Career Goals (250 words max) Commitment to Enhance Diversity in Science (250 words max) Financial Need (150 words max) Examples of Research Interests/Career Goals: Interests in Biochemistry and Molecular Biology (e.g., cancer biology, genetics, neurobiology) Career goals may include attending graduate or medical school, becoming an academic professor, entrepreneurship, or pursuing other biomedical workforce-related careers.
